Some Industry Leading Floor Heating Options
Warmzone offers Milwaukee residents one of the largest varieties of industry leading radiant floor heating solutions available. Each system offers unique benefits and characteristics to make it particularly well-suited for heating certain types of flooring. The heating elements of the floor heating systems range from paper-thin “FilmHeat” to the trusted ComfortTile heat cable, to thin low-voltage FloorHeat STEP polymer and FoilHeat systems.
FilmHeat
The FilmHeat floor heating element is a paper-thin heating element that requires no floor buildup and
can be cut on site. The system provides moderate, regulated warmth that is best suited for laminate surfaces.
When installing the system, the heating panels are cut to their proper length and then installed over the
subfloor. After the heating element is secured, the electrical connections are made and the laminate floor
is installed directly over the panels.
FilmHeat can also be installed to heat existing floors. The element is stapled up in the floor joists under the floor to be heated and then Batt insulation is placed over the heating element to direct all the heat upward to efficiently warm the floor. This system is also known as RetroHeat. The under floor radiant heating system is UL approved and carries a 10-year warranty.
ComfortTile Floor Heat
The most popular floor heating system features the thin, reliable CT heat cable, available off the spool
or pre-spaced in mats that can be rolled out for easy installation. The cable is secured to a flexible mat
with an adhesive backing so that it can be easily rolled out and secured to the subfloor, cutting down on
installation time and saving money. The CT floor heating mat heats an area 24-inches wide and is pre-terminated
for use with 120 and 240 volts. They are available in a variety of lengths.
The ComfortTile floor warming system is the most versatile radiant heating system, capable of safely and effectively heating a variety of floor surfaces. While it is especially ideal for heating tile and slate floors, it is also commonly used to heat almost all other types of floors, including laminates and carpet. The heat cable carries a 25-year warranty.
Prodeso® Floor Heating Membrane
This unique system features a polypropylene waterproofing membrane that is laid out over the subfloor.
The membrane is just ¼-inch (5.5mm) thick and has square shaped reliefs with rounded corners that form
channels for the heat cable, making installation quick and easy while ensuring the perfect cable spacing.
The underlayment membrane is especially beneficial when installing radiant heat over difficult subfloors without movement or expansion joints in the screed. The Prodeso® system uses ComfortTile heat cable, and can be installed to warm virtually all types of floors.
In-Slab Floor Heat
In-Slab floor heating cable features a rugged construction, designed for installation in new concrete slab applications. The area to be heated is prepared for the concrete pour and the cable is then laid out and secured to the remesh with zip ties. (It is important to keep the cable elevated during the concrete pour so that it stays within about 1-2 inches from the surface.
The concrete slab efficiently stores and distributes the heat throughout the intended area. In-Slab floor heating systems are affordable and can be used to warm any type of flooring, installed over the concrete slab, including tile, hardwood, carpet, and more. The cable comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
FloorHeat STEP Low-voltage Floor Heating
This unique floor heating system features a low-profile polyethylene heating element that is both
self-regulating and low-voltage. The heating element can be installed under most types of floor coverings
but the self-regulating property makes it especially well suited for heating hardwood floors. (As the
element gets warmer less electricity passes through it, preventing the element from overheating and
optimizing energy-efficiency.) And because the heating element is so thin, it does not affect floor
buildup or weight loads.
FloorHeat STEP’s semi-conductive polyethylene heating element is available in rolls 9 and 12-inches wide, and can be nailed and stapled through. It is so versatile and durable that it is also commonly used for roof deicing applications. Like the RetroHeat floor heating system, FloorHeat can also be stapled up between floor joists to heat existing floors. The heating element carries a 20-year limited warranty.
FoilHeat Floor Heating Mats
The FoilHeat cut-and-turn floor heating mat is a thin, reflective floor heating system that is
designed for use under carpet, laminate, engineered wood and floating floors. The heating mat is made
with fluoropolymer insulated heating cables, sandwiched between two layers of specially reinforced
aluminum foil. The uniform spacing of the heating elements, backed by the aluminum foil, ensures even
heat distribution that is free from the problems of 'Hot-Spots' or localized heating, which can sometimes
happen with cheaper floor heating systems.
The FoilHeat floor heating system is an excellent value for installing radiant heat under a variety of floor types. It is easy to install and can be cut on site to fit custom-shaped areas. (Cut only the foil of the mat. Do not cut or damage the sandwiched heating cables.)
HeatShield Floor Heating Insulation Panels
The HeatShield floor heating system features lightweight aluminum insulation panels combined with
ComfortTile heat cable, and is ideal for heating laminate and engineered wood flooring. The panels are
easy to install and have pre-cut grooves for the heat cable to ensure accurate spacing. The insulation
panels are laid out on the subfloor snapped together with small plastic locking keys that are provided
with the system. The heating cable is then placed in the grooves provided and the flooring is then
applied (without the use of mortar and thinset). For custom shaped rooms, the HeatShield Panel can
easily be cut with a standard table saw or jig saw.
HeatShield Panels feature insulation that is built into the aluminum plates/panels, maximizing heat distribution and efficiency. Because the panels act as insulation as well as a reflective heat source that directs all the heat upward to the floor, the energy-efficient system serves as a giant radiator, radiating heat evenly across the room.
